Hosted by the Junior Board of the Southern Environmental Center, Darter Fest is an annual fundraiser that supports educational efforts at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve in Pinson. The festival is named for the Vermillion Darter, an extremely rare fish that is only found in the waters of Turkey Creek. Funds raised at Darter Fest go towards exciting educational programs at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve, while the festival helps raise awareness for the rare Vermillion Darter.

Darter Fest is one of Birmingham’s most anticipated spring events! The festival will feature kid’s activities (sponsored by Young Black Professionals of Birmingham), educational opportunities (sponsored by Friends of Turkey Creek Nature Preserve) and live music from The Lily Hart Band, the Faith Apostolic Praise Choir and DJ Rod Core. In addition, the Eugene’s Hot Chicken, Avondale Burger Co. and Naughty but Nice Kettle Corn Co. food trucks will have something delicious for everyone.

Introducing Good People’s Newest Brew: the Darter IPA

This year, Good People Brewing Co. is teaming up with the Southern Environmental Center on a new Darter IPA, a low ABV hazy-style IPA. Although limited-edition cans will be available in stores in late April, Darter Fest attendees will have the opportunity to preview the special drink at the event.

“We are thrilled to work with the Southern Environmental Center on this project. We appreciate their passion and commitment to the preservation of such a fragile local treasure. To help support their efforts, Good People Brewing developed the Darter IPA which we believe demonstrates our passion and commitment to quality beer making. We hope everyone enjoys this low ABV hazy style IPA. Brewed and dry hopped with hops that are characterized as fruity, juicy, and tropical. The hazy yeast strain produces notes of vibrant grapefruit, passion fruit, and guava. Low bitterness and creamy mouthfeel make for an easy drinking IPA.”
