Any fellow art enthusiasts in the Magic City? If you love to appreciate art as much as I do, then you’ll want to keep reading to know about some of the art openings in Birmingham.

1. 2022 Alabama Triennial

Featuring 16 Alabama local contemporary artists, 2022 Alabama Triennial helps the audiences understand what it means to be Southern through various perspectives. Located at Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts (AEIVA), this exhibit is free to the public and not something you want to miss.

BONUS: Keep a look out for one of the more exciting art openings in Birmingham. The prominent Thorton Dial’s “I, too, am Alabama” exhibit is coming to AEVIA this September.

2. Elysian Gardens

The immersive steel art park is opening soon in Avondale. Elysian Gardens, one of the most highly anticipated art openings in Birmingham, has so much to offer. You could spend hours here and still find something to experience.

What’s at Elysian Gardens? You can expect a quaint garden bar, a restaurant or two and, of course, stunning sculptures. Add this to your “things to do in Avondale” list.

3. Orion

At Scott Miller Projects, experience “Orion”, a group exhibition curated by artist Jason Stopa, works by Justine Hill, Kimia Ferdowsi Kline and Stopa. Just as the three stars in the belt of Orion guide you to look up at the sky, these three artists have you examining perceptions of motion and art.

4. Light Play

One of the most interesting art openings in Birmingham can be found at the Birmingham Museum of Art. Reflect on your emotions at their latest exhibit, “Light Play“. Explore the thirty-plus works by artists like Afruz Amighi, Kumi Yamashita, and Harry Anderson, who have incorporated the play of light and shadows.

5. Good on Paper

Visit the dynamic art gallery at Samford University, where contemporary printmaking artists, Noah Breuer and Liz Chalfin, display their art. As art openings in Birmingham go, this one is made for those who love the art of printmaking.

6. Art at Night

Studio 2500 is an art studio and gallery for all to appreciate. Celebrate this gallery’s sixth anniversary, with a party called Art at Night. There will be live music, art and food. Get your tickets here.
