Is there anything better than a birthday party? We love a good celebration, especially when it’s for a cause as great as Children’s of Alabama. On June 17, Children’s of Alabama is celebrating 111 years of serving children, so we’re sharing how YOU can celebrate Children’s of Alabama. Keep reading for three ideas and find the many ways they’re changing lives for the better.
Celebrating over a century of care ❤️
Even if you’re not personally familiar with Children’s of Alabama, you probably know someone who’s been positively impacted by their care. Children’s of Alabama is the only freestanding medical center in Alabama dedicated to treating children, and people from around Alabama and the Southeast regularly depend on Children’s. Each employee at Children’s has a pretty big job caring for our state’s littlest patients!
Fun facts about Children’s of Alabama:
- Treats over 90% of children diagnosed with cancer + blood disorders in Alabama
- Holds the only Accredited Pediatric Epilepsy Monitoring Unit in the US
- The only hospital in Birmingham with a nursing educator on every unit + every shift
Plus, Children’s isn’t just a fantastic place for patients—it’s also a great place to work. Rocky Caldwell has been working at Children’s for thirty years, and now, his son and daughter-in-law work there.
“You would be surprised just how many of our former patients come back to Children’s to work as an adult. We have a lot of our nurses, doctors and support staff, and even a chaplain, who were former patients. It’s a great feeling when you see them come back.”
Rocky Caldwell, Director of Patient Registration, Children’s of Alabama

“Children’s of Alabama is the only freestanding pediatric hospital in the state of Alabama, and we serve children from the state and all over the Southeast. We take children and families no matter their ability to pay, so anybody can come to our hospital and get the best care possible. Without people supporting the hospital, we wouldn’t be able to do all that we do.”
