Of all the cities in Alabama, Birmingham has been named the #1 spot for visiting with your pup, and we couldn’t agree more. Livability broke down the most “Fido Friendly” cities across the country, considering things like dog-friendly establishments, trails, dog parks and more.

Bham pet owners won’t be surprised by the honor, we do have a luxury dog resort in Lakeview, after all. Let’s take a closer look at the spots that got national attention from the site and helped us claim our title.

Don’t miss Remy’s Dog Park

We’re fortunate to have a number of incredible dog parks in the Birmingham area. Remy’s Dog Park, located within Red Mountain Park, got a special shout out.

Remy’s is one of the most popular dog parks in town, thanks to its dedicated areas for small dogs, large dogs and dogs with special needs. Named after his beloved dog, the park was a passion project developed by local philanthropist Ken Jackson.

Avondale & Good People are puppy paradise

Two of the many Birmingham breweries were also recognized as being the perfect place for pups. Both Avondale Brewing Company and Good People Brewing Company made the cut. Of course, we’re not surprised—Avondale Brewery took home a Bham Now Nowie Award for “Most Dog Friendly” earlier this year.

Celebrate Birmingham dogs at Do Dah Day

Looking for even more dog-centric brewery fun? Don’t miss Do Dah Day, happening Saturday, May 14 at Cahaba Brewing Company. It’ll be a day full of live music, dance performances and, of course, adorable pups.

BONUS: Proceeds will support local animal charities!
