WOW: Watch Protective Stadium transform 100,000 sq. ft. of turf overnight [VIDEOS]
Reading time: 3 minutes
From hosting UAB football to Legion FC soccer games, Protective Stadium showcases many different events here in Birmingham. If you’ve ever wondered how the field changes so quickly to accommodate it all, read on to see two fascinating behind-the-scene videos.
A rapid transformation
Protective Stadium sees a lot of action in a short amount of time. Last week was no different, when in the span of three days the field had to transform from a college football field to soccer and then to USFL football the next day.
Each sport and league that plays at Protective Stadium has different requirements for field markings, which means the BJCC team has to scrub and repaint the 100,000 sq. ft. turf in between events.
Below you can catch a timelapse of the field’s complete transformation, from UAB Football’s Spring game on Saturday, April 9 to Legion FC’s soccer game Sunday, April 10. Lastly, the stage was set on Monday, April 11 for the inaugural USFL game this weekend.
Watch the team in action
Now that you’ve seen a speedy time-lapse of the transformation, let’s get up close and personal with the people that make it happen.
Who knew field goal posts came down like that? Mind=blown.
These guys make it look easy, but there’s a lot of work that goes into transforming such a vast amount of space in a short period of time.
