Local hoopsters, it’s time to tie your sneakers and get back on the court. The Birmingham Squadron is holding an open tryout for local talent to find a spot on the team this weekend.

What is the Birmingham Squadron?

The Birmingham Squadron is Bham’s new NBA G league basketball team, an affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans. The team will be playing home games at the Legacy Arena this season. With the 2021-22 season about to start, the team is looking for some local talent to try out to fill up the last remaining spots on the team.

Connecting with the local community

The tryouts are more about filling up spots. It’s about inviting the Birmingham community to be part of the team, whether you’re on the court or in the stands.

“Beyond developing talent for the Pelicans organization, our goal at the Squadron is to connect with the Birmingham community.

What better way to do that than giving local players an opportunity to make the roster. We’re excited to see the talent Birmingham and the surrounding areas have to offer.”

Ryan Pannone, Head Coach, Birmingham Squadron

It’s only fitting that the Magic City team is holding tryouts in the Birmingham area. Clear your Saturday to come out to Bessemer and shoot some hoops.

The local tryouts are yet another way the Birmingham Squadron is inviting the Birmingham community to join their team. Keep an eye on their Facebook and Instagram to find out who makes the team and for upcoming games.
