5 COVID-safe ideas for a swoon-worthy Valentine’s Day Weekend in Birmingham
Reading time: 3 minutes
It’s valentine’s Day Weekend, and if you’re wondering what you can do to celebrate while staying COVID-safe, we have a few ideas for you. Are you ready? Here goes.
1. Grab Brunch
Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday this year, which sets you up for two of my favorite things: sleeping in and eating brunch.
Birmingham has one of the best brunch scenes around and many eateries are offering special V-Day menus.
One is Iron City Grill. On Sunday, February 14, the restaurant unveils their brand-new brunch menu. From gluten-free pancakes with candied bacon and Iron City Shrimp and Grits, you’re in for a treat. Here’s a closer look at the menu.
2. Take a Hike
Okay, so you may have said these exact words to your ex last Valentine’s Day, but hopefully your love game is stronger in 2021.
If the pandemic’s caused a permanent you-shaped indention in your couch cushions, it’s time to move your body. Getting outdoors is always best with company by your side, so grab your Valentine and hit one of Birmingham’s local hiking trails.
Here are the five best hiking spots in the Greater Birmingham Area:
- Oak Mountain State Park
- Moss Rock Preserve
- Red Mountain Park
- Ruffner Mountain
- Turkey Creek Nature Preserve
3. Watch the Sunrise/Sunset
Did you know Birmingham has some of the best spots to watch the sunrise and set? They’re perfect for some romantic together-time with your Valentine.
My personal fave is at Tip Top Grill in Hoover. Located in the bluffs in Hoover, you’ll discover one of the most astounding views around.
When you’re done, consider a mountaintop drive around Birmingham.
4. Have a Cupcake Taste Test
For the sweetest holiday of the year, having a special treat is a must. Well, nothing’s sweeter than cupcakes!
This Valentine’s Day, map out some Birmingham bakeries known for their decadent cupcakes, order a few from each spot and take them home for the ultimate Valentine’s Day taste test with your special someone.
Need ideas of where to go and what flavors to try? Here are some:
- Ashley Mac’s: mini strawberry cupcakes
- Edgar’s Bakery: red velvet cupcakes
- K & J’s Elegant Pastries: assorted fruity cupcakes
5. Cozy Up at the Drive-In
If there’s one thing we’ve all spent a good deal of time doing during the pandemic, it’s binge-watching TV shows at home. This Valentine’s weekend, take your view party to the car and catch a flick at the Grand River Drive-In in Leeds.
February 12-14, the drive in will be hosting Valentine’s and Drive-In Movies.
Here’s the lineup:
- Screen 1: Croods: A New Age, 6:30PM | Wonder Woman 1984, 8:15PM
- Screen 2: Crazy Rich Asians, 6:30PM | When Harry Met Sally, 8:40PM
- Screen 3: Dream Girls, 6:30PM | Ghost, 8:45PM
- Screen 4: Judas and the Black Messiah, 6:30PM | The Little Things, 8:45PM
