Coming Soon: New Downtown Birmingham bar, sandwich shop and Jiu-Jitsu studio set to open later this year
What does a new downtown bar, sandwich shop and Jiu-Jitsu studio have in common? They’re all new businesses coming to Birmingham soon. We’ve got the deets on these three new concepts and can’t wait to see them open to the public.
1. Neon Moon Birmingham
The owners of Queen Park are always finding then next best thing and this time they’re embarking on a new bar concept—Neon Moon. It will be Birmingham’s newest neighborhood cocktail bar that will specialize in draft and package beer, whiskey, cocktails and a small menu of snacks.
Neon Moon Bar is currently in the early stages of construction and design. It’ll include an outdoor patio perfect for socially distancing while sipping on your go-to drink.
The bar will be located on 2nd Avenue next door to where Urban Standard previously was. It’s set to open later this year and you can bet we’ll be sure to let Birmingham know when the official opening is. In the meantime, you can catch me at Queen’s Park trying their seasonal drinks.

2. Ampersandwich Deli
Pilcrow Cocktail Celler owner Joe Phelps will be introducing a new restaurant to the Avondale Entertainment District. Towards the end of the year, the area will be introduced to Ampersandwich Deli. Associate brokers at Retail Specialists, LLC, Lyndsy Yim and Haden Smith represented the landlord, Orchestra Partners and hopes to find a unique concept that is compatible with Ampersandwich Deli and the Avondale community to go in the remaining space (former Sour Room).
It will be a classic neighborhood sandwich shop dedicated to offering a quick and cheap option for lunch, dinner and catering. We have an awesome patio and will also offer delivery and to go. We will have a good selection of packaged beer that can be bought to enjoy with lunch on the patio or by the six pack and case to go.

The casual, neighborhood sandwich shop will have an opening date by November or December. It will be located in the old Wasabi Juan’s space behind Avondale Common House. I can’t wait to try it for myself. You can never go wrong with a sandwich and your favorite local brew.

3. Gracie Barra
Get ready to work those muscles and the mind. Gracie Barra is moving into Avondale and will be introducing its fourth location in Birmingham. Represented by associate broker at Retail Specialists, LLC, Lyndsy Yim, Gracie Barra is a worldwide community of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructors, students and athletes. There are over 700 schools in six continents and Birmingham is about to add to the expansive network of schools.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a competitive sport and is the world’s most practical form of self-defense. Since the pandemic may have interrupted our usual workout routines, Jiu-Jitsu is a great way to get fit, stay in shape and learn some new skills. Their new location will also offer kids’ anti-bullying lessons, women’s self-defense classes and other fitness options.
Gracie Barra’s new space will be located across the road from Rodney Scott’s BBQ in Avondale. Their current official headquarters is located in Pelham. The other locations are in Vestavia Hills and Greystone.
