Birmingham Botanical Gardens is a true local treasure. Every year, the Gardens bring visitors to our Magic City from all over the world. The Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens has stayed as busy as ever while the Gardens have been closed due to COVID-19.

In April, when the Gardens were blooming in their full glory, we teamed up to take everyone holed up in their homes on a virtual journey. This walk through the Gardens let us all feel like we were right there in the thick of it.

The Friends also launched a new Youtube channel this year. It’s already stocked with educational videos, entertainment and more; it’s perfect for all ages and skill levels. Find some of our favorites here.

As a community staple and a cherished place of respite for more than 55 years, the closing of the Gardens, while necessary, was felt far and wide.

The Ordinance Update

The wait is finally over. The Birmingham Park & Recreation Board announced that the Gardens will open to the public following the City of Birmingham’s latest ordinance.

Entertainment centers of all kinds got the green light to welcome patrons back in, and we’ll definitely be one of the first to show our support for the Botanical Gardens.

Hooray for Opening Day!

The Gardens will officially open to the public on Monday, June 15. They’re also sporting updated hours. From June 15 through June 30, the Gardens will be open from 7AM to 6PM every day of the week.

Access will be limited to the front entrance gates. Visitors are encouraged to practice social distancing. However, with 67.5 acres to explore, staying 6 feet apart should be a walk in the park—er, Gardens.

Face masks are required when interacting with others in the Gardens and for entering the Garden Center. The Garden Center will be open 8AM to 5PM Monday-Friday.

As always, admission + parking are free!
