Looking for a reason to smile? From tail wags to balls of fluff, here are 12 local Birmingham pets to follow on Instagram.
1. Radar the Cat
Prepare for all the feels when you follow Radar the cat on Instagram. This precious gray Tabby was one of 27 cats taken in by the Greater Birmingham Humane Society when a North Carolina shelter needed help during Hurricane Florence. He was quickly adopted.
Radar may be sightless, but that doesn’t hold this feline back. He is now living his best life in his furever home, filled with snuggles, warm hats and lots of frisky business.
2. Bear the Golden
Golden Retriever’s are one of my favorite dog breeds. They’re smart, smiley and chill. They also look stellar in shades like Bear the Golden.
If Bear was a human, he’d be one of the cool kids at school.
3. Ms. Opal
Part King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, part Poodle, it’s hard to resist the cuteness of a Cavapoo. Does this breed remind anyone else of Ewoks?
Before social distancing, Ms. Opal loved to hit Birmingham’s coolest spots like Taco Mama and the Rotary Trail. She doesn’t seem to mind some lazy quarantine days though.

4. Vader
Want to pep up that Instagram feed? Then follow Bham Darth Kitty—a.k.a, Vader. This sleek black feline is a rescue from Kitty Kat Haven and is sure to make you chuckle.
Vader wins my vote for most hilarious facial expressions. It is clear he knows he is awesome and does not find his humans as humorous as they believe themselves to be.
5. Walt
He may be named Walt, but I can’t but call him Moustachio. I mean, look at that fabulous ‘stach! Grown men would be envious.
For a delightful combo of adorable smoosh face and a strong love of “if it fits, I sits,” follow @wonderfulworldofwalt.
6. Murphy the Blue Fawn Frenchie
Big ears, wrinkles and a corkscrew tail. If you’re seeking cuteness in a pup, check out Murphy the Blue Fawn Frenchie.
Not only is Murphy the coziest sleeper of all time, but he can also rock a sweatsuit better than any hooman ever could.
Follow @murph.dog.millionaire.
7. Lila the Golden Retriever
If you think golden retrievers are cute, check out @lil_golden_girl. Delilah—best known as Lila—has been growing up on Instagram since November 2019, and she only gets sweeter with each post.
One look at this pup and you’ll wish you could rub her soft ears for luck.
8. Puck the Cat
It’s hard not to love a Tabby. There’s just something about those M’s on their foreheads that draw me in. One sweet and local Tabby to follow on Instagram is Puck the Cat.
A rescue from the Greater Birmingham Humane Society, Puck has an adorable face that will make you saw “aww.”
9. Hank
Get ready to gush. Hanky Doodle Kitty is a fluff-tastic Flamepoint Himalayanliving life in the Magic City. Who could resist such a squeezable squishmallow?
10. Finn the Ginger Cat
If you love a ginger then Finn the Ginger Cat is a must-follow.. This local kitty knows how to chill at home during quarantine and helps prove that cats are liquid.
Bham Now’s Pets
Guess what. Two Bham Now Team members’ pets have their own Instagram pages. (Honestly, I think there are more of us, but some don’t want to admit it.) Taking spots 11 and 12 are Lexie Dillard’s pup Peach and Jacob Blankenship’s dogs, Maverick and Oats.
11. Peach the Hairless Terrior
Okay, so I may think hairless animals are extremely awesome, but Peach is seriously one of the cutest dogs around.
She’s an American Hairless Terrier and sports the coolest spots. She also pops on camera which makes her the perfect Instagram model.
12. Maverick and Oats
Meet the wild boys—Maverick and Oats. These brothers from different mothers are always on an outdoor adventure making them an exciting duo to travel along with.
Check them out—and be sure to give them each a follow—@thewildmaverick and @thewilderoats.
