5 local apps every Birminghamian should have on their phone, including Pointz
Reading time: 3 minutes
When you’re trying to figure out what to do on the weekend or after work, how do you find out what’s going down around town in the Magic City? Turns out, there are several local apps that are designed to keep you in the know. Here are five to put on your radar.
1. Pointz
Pointz is one of the most unique local apps I have found. It actually rewards you for spending time at local hot spots. Yes, you read that right. Time, not money. Wallet score!
Here’s how it works:
- Visit participating local establishments. (Avondale Brewing Company, Rojo, Revelator Coffee, etc.)
- Earn points for how much time you spend there. Since the app works via Bluetooth, you won’t even need to open it to receive points.
- Once you have enough points, redeem them for rewards, such as concert tickets, gift cards, T-shirts and more.
There are a ton of incentives for visiting places, too. For instance, you can get bonus points for your first visit to a new restaurant.
Pointz is available on the App Store.
2. The House
There is always sooo much going on in The Magic City, and it can sometimes be too much to remember. Luckily, The House app finds you all the best things to do in Birmingham.
The House breaks down Birmingham’s events into a handful of categories, including:
- Happy Hours
- Daily Specials
- Live Music
- Special Events
- Trivia Nights
- Brunch Deals
The House is available on the App Store and Google Play.
3. Food Truck Finder
Okay, you got me. This one technically isn’t an app. However, Food Truck Finder has helped me, on several occasions, find all sorts of delicious food in Birmingham.
Unless you have your radar on at all times, it can be difficult to find your favorite food truck around The Magic City. Luckily, Food Truck Finder tracks Birmingham’s food trucks so you don’t have to! Just visit their website and you can see the where local food trucks are stationed, updated in real time.
4. Magic City Stickers
Magic City Stickers will help you show off your love of Birmingham through text messages!
Simply download the app and then scroll through the iMessage panels until you see Magic City Stickers. Then you can add your favorite Birmingham-themed sticker to your next conversation!
Here are a handful of the stickers:
- The Shipt UFO
- James Spann
- Gatos & Beans
- Hop City
- Ruffner Mountain
- Good People Brewing
Magic City Stickers is available on the App Store.
5. Magic City Weekend
Magic City Weekend helps you plan the perfect weekend in Birmingham. Whether you’re looking for restaurants, deals, drinks, family-friendly events or concerts, this app makes it easy to plan.
