Alabama Veteran Casino Night Gala

Did you know each year Alabama Veteran hosts a salute to service gala to honor veterans and military? This year’s theme is a casino night.

This annual reception and dinner honors an outstanding veteran in the United States each year who has made great contributions to further the patriotic interests of veterans and veteran organizations throughout the country.

National Veterans Day Parade

What better way to celebrate our veterans than with a parade?

Pop quiz! Where was America’s very first Veteran’s Day Parade held? If you guessed Birmingham… ding, ding, ding!… you are correct!

This annual event celebrates the national holiday signed into legislation by President Eisenhower in 1954, and is the longest-running Veteran’s Day parade in the country.

This year’s parade will march into action at 1:30PM. Here’s a look at the parade route:

• Parade Begins: Richard Arrington Blvd. & 1st Ave S.
• Turns RIGHT onto 3rd Ave S.
• Turns RIGHT onto 14th St. S.
• Turns RIGHT onto 1 Ave S.
• Parade Ends: 1st Ave S. & 20th St. S.

Tip: the best place to view the parade will be at Railroad Park. Arrive early, bring some chairs and blankets and cozy up for a memorable event.

Veterans Day Weekend at the Zoo

In honor of Veterans Day, the Birmingham Zoo will be offering free admission to all vets, active and retired military and their dependents, November 9-11.
