Owned by Avondale neighborhood resident John Hall, the list was created by 24/7 Tiempo for USA Today. Post Office Pies, a Birmingham Original
Bham Now visited Post Office Pies, to get their take on the national recognition. We were warmly greeted by Justin Lenard, the General Manager.
“We are pretty excited,” Lenard said about the story. “These guys put in a lot of work day in and day out. John Hall, our owner has put in a lot of time with the concept, transitioning from counter to full service restaurant this year. I am really excited for the staff.”
Secret to Post Office Pies Success
We asked Lenard what makes Post Office Pies special.
“It is all locally sourced food. All fresh products. We make our dough in house. What also makes it special, is that John is from Avondale. He was born and raised here, his house is just down the street.. This is an old post office that we purchased, built in the 1920s left in the 50s that we re-established it in 2014. It has got that neighborhood vibe, wood fire oven, built “in-house” – everything has got that nice personal touch to it. That’s what makes it special.”
Third Birmingham establishment to make USA Today list
Post Office Pies is the third Birmingham restaurant establishment to be recognized by 24/7 Tiempo and USA Today in the past three months. over the summer Hamburger Heaven was recognized as best in Alabama for their milkshakes, while Magic City Sweet Ice in Homewood was named best Ice Cream parlor in Alabama.
