King’s Garden is the therapeutic garden program at the farm at King’s Home. The garden provides an opportunity for the residents to learn about farming, work ethic, and business skills. The program offers sessions for King’s Home youth multiple times a week, focusing on things like:

  • Planting and harvesting seeds
  • Farm-to-table cooking
  • Learning about farm animals

King’s Home offers a home to to youth, women and children seeking refuge from difficult and impoverished conditions. The organization operates 22 group homes on 6 campuses, servicing all 67 Alabama counties.

In addition to providing a safe environment, King’s Home teaches the residents valuable life skills. For example, the ceramics at Prodigal Pottery are handmade by women at King’s Home. When you purchase a piece of Prodigal Pottery, you’re helping women fleeing homelessness, domestic abuse and sex-trafficking to gain the skills they need to succeed once they’re back on their feet.

Furthermore, King’s Home operates a series of thrift stores throughout Alabama. In addition to providing a wonderful thrift store to the community, the proceeds benefit the King’s Home mission.

If you like gardening, the Evening in the Garden is an excellent opportunity to see how the program uses gardening and farming to encourage the youth while they are in foster care.
