Wow! Check out the new Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant in the Lakeview District (photos)
Reading time: 3 minutes
Los Amigos, the popular and beloved family Mexican Restaurant re-opened this weekend at its new location on 2839 7th Avenue South, in the heart of Birmingham’s Historic Lakeview Entertainment District.
Last month, the popular restaurant moved from its Clairmont Avenue home of 20 years to make way for an expansion of the adjacent Piggly Wiggly.
This past Friday, Bham Now was able to get a sneak peek of the new and expanded Los Amigos.
More elbow room – 10 more tables – actual bar
The first thing you notice when you enter the new Los Amigos is its openness and increased space. If you remember the so-called “bar” at the old site, it was more of a staging area for food pick-ups. The new bar seats about 12 people and as you can see in our photos it is now an a attraction.
Along with the new bar, there are 4 additional places eat, which include a side room and some outside seating.
In an interview with the manager, he summed it up best. “We have a lot more elbow room.”
Liquor License & Menu
If you are anxious to get your weekly “margarita fix” you will have to wait about a week. Los Amigos is presently waiting on the state to complete the paperwork.
The menu is pretty much identical to the previous location. Most importantly, you are still greeted with a free basket of chips and some of the best mild salsa in town.
Fridays and Saturdays Open till 12:00
Other than the location, the other big change at Los Amigos will be it hours on Friday and Saturday night. They will remain open longer till midnight. As a result, the manager told me they are looking into developing a late night after 10:00pm menu.
Welcome Back Los Amigos
They were not gone long – but it is great to see Los Amigos back and better than ever.
