Brat Brot reopens in Lakeview, and we’ve never been happier
Reading time: 3 minutes
No one was more excited than the Bham Now team when Brat Brot dropped the news earlier this year that it would be reopening after temporarily closing late last year. So naturally, we had to visit this revamped gartenbar the first evening its grand reopening. It was all we could do to not show up in our favorite lederhosen to get the full effect. Like I said, we are SUPER excited.
During its hiatus, Brat Brot owner David Carrigan created a survey open for anyone to give feedback, constructive criticism and praise if you so choose. They collected the information and remodeled their biergarten turned gartenbar’s seating area, menus and overall atmosphere. Here are some of the awesome changes we saw on our visit
Some Killer Menu Changes (Hint: Late. Night. Brunch.)
Brat Brot’s new Executive Chef Angela Schmidt made a few tweaks to the German-centric menu in all the right places. Many favorites from the former menu remain (like the Schnitzel Fingers, thank GOODNESS), but they’ve included many items that encourage sharing, whether you’re on an intimate date or with your whole crew. The most interesting change? Head to Brat Brot every Friday between 10pm and 12am for a ‘late night brunch’ unlike anything you’ve tried before.
Cozy New Atmosphere
Next time you visit Brat Brot, get ready for a more mature and intimate experience. The biergarten is strictly 21+ now, and is open exclusively evenings. You’ll find bar stools, two-top tables and even a cozy ‘living room’ area replacing many of the larger community tables inside the restaurant. Venture to the patio and you’ll find several games of cornhole set up and ready for you and your friends to enjoy.
Waaaay More Bar Options
The beer menu is what made Birmingham’s first biergarten, well, a biergarten. But we all have that friend looking for something more classic, so Brat Brot expanded its drink list to fit more of into the ‘gartenbar’ category. In addition to the delicious selection of German beers Brat Brot features on tap, the bar has expanded to include popular spirits and mixers. This spot will also offer 6 classic cocktails that will be batched daily and served on tap.
Looking for something more adventurous? Order a ‘Liquer Flight,’ a selection of mostly European liqueurs that you can enjoy as apertif, after-dinner treat or anything in between. You’re bound to try something you’ve never experienced before!
Brat Brot is located at 2910 Sixth Avenue South in the Lakeview Entertainment District. New hours are Tuesday-Thursday 4pm-11pm, Friday 4pm-12:30am and Saturday 11am-12:30am.
