Earlier this month, La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries owner Curt Morris and La-Z-Boy Designer at the Greystone store on 280 Ellen Clark travelled to High Point, North Carolina to attend the High Point Market, which is the largest home furnishings industry trade show in the world.

Held biannually, over 70,000 to 80,000 people from over 100 countries meet and greet the roughly 2000 exhibitors that occupy over 10 million square feet of showroom space throughout 180 buildings. The week-long event is located in High Point, the “Furnishings Capital” of the World.

Regular attendees, Morris and Clark provided Bham Now with 3 takeaways from this year’s Market.

Color of the year

Each year the pantone “color of the year” is announced at the High Point Market. This year’s color? Drum roll please….. Living Coral.

“We try to keep up with the trends here at La-Z- Boy Furniture Galleries. This year’s pantone color of the year is living coral. It is a color that doesn’t have to be the main color because it is so bright and it is only meant to be an accent. Our designers can come into your home and show you how to use it in so many ways,” said Morris.

According to Ellen Clark, Living Coral make today’s furnishings “pop.”

What is so exciting about a nice pop of color like the living coral is that it actually goes very well with the greys that are still very popular. It is really nice to bring in a bright uplifting color. You will see this color in our lamps, artwork, even rugs this year.

Power & Design

Other trends discovered at the High Point Market?

For recliners, more of them are going to use “power.” The days of the manual recliner are numbered.

“The development of the wireless remote is such a logical device especially in this day and age when people want modern convenience and technology working in their home,” said Clark. “No longer will you have to worry about the manual or search for a button or a cord that connect you into your furniture. It will be coming out in about 3 months. And it will be affordable.”

Recliners are also becoming more modern.

“One thing that stood out to me – we have two new recliners being introduced and the lines on it are more sleek,” described Clark. “It is not that oversized and puffy grandpa recliner. So it blends nicely to contemporary non-upholstered and upholstered furniture we’ve got. The mid century modern flair. It’s a fresh touch.”

Comfort

Morris summed it up best. At La-Z-Boy, it is all about comfort for you. We bring it all together- lifestyles, fashion and function all at once – just like our motto – Live life comfortably.
