The TakeOut Bham has been working hard in Birmingham to deliver meals from your favorite local restaurants for years, and they continue to add great Birmingham restaurants to their delivery list every week. This month, we checked out what SoHO Social, one of their popular delivery restaurants in Homewood, was all about.

SoHo Social

When SoHo Social opened their doors in February of 2017, they had a totally different menu. Owners Dave Horn and Taylor Hughes (also the Head Chef), were excited to open up a new concept in Homewood and worked hard to give the residents of Homewood a great menu. However, they soon found that the menu they thought Homewood wanted, was not the right one.

You see, they had never opened a restaurant in Homewood. Horn is also the owner of Mudtown and The Ridge, and he knew that he wanted to mix things up a bit with the new Homewood restaurant. After the first menu had a good, not great response, Horn and Hughes kept working and experimenting. They eventually landed on their current menu, which is officially their third, and were met with a hefty dose of praise. When I asked why they thought this one was the most successful, it was obvious: this menu is them. It’s the food they want to eat. It is funky and inventive and exciting. And their customers can tell that their heart and soul is in it.

Brunch, Lunch and Dinner

Although SoHo Social has some of the coolest signature cocktails around, this isn’t just a dinner date spot. The restaurant is actually quite well-known for their Sunday brunch, which features a changing menu every week. The chef picks five rotating dishes for each Sunday, but they always have the classics on the menu for those who are looking for a two-eggs-with-bacon-and-a-biscuit type of brunch meal. Oh, and did I mention there is a Bloody Mary bar and a Mimosa bar?

Big News! SoHo Social is now serving Saturday brunch!

Starting this weekend, Chef Hughes will be serving up a small Saturday brunch menu! The menu will consist of a few small plates, like sausage balls and cinnamon beignets, as well as offering a full cereal bar! Mimosas and Bloody Marys will be on deck as well. See you guys at the cereal bar.

SoHo Social Menu Faves

While every dish on the menu is fantastic, Horn and Hughes gave me a list of their top five most popular dishes. So, next time you go, try one of these tried-and-true faves and let us know how it is!

Chicken Fingers

Because who doesn’t love a good chicken finger, right? These are hand-breaded, and according to Horn, the best chicken fingers he has had in his life. You gotta try them.

The SoHo Burger

The SoHo Burger is a classic cheeseburger, but made with a local meat blend, topped with local veggies, and grilled to order. It’s easy to see how this is a fan fave. Sometimes you just need a great cheeseburger.

Tallulah Wings

These aren’t your average sports bar wings. The marinade was inspired by the Tallulah cocktail (a mix of bourbon, coke and peanuts) and then they are smoked and fried for that crispy, tender bite you’re looking for in a chicken wing.

Queso

Okay, so a big bowl of melted cheese may be a hit everywhere, but at SoHo Social, you can get green chile queso with your choice of chips, tater tots or (my personal favorite) a giant soft pretzel. It’s kind of epic.

Shrimp and Grits

Like most things on the SoHo Social menu, this classic comes with its own unique twist. The shrimp and sauce are served over potato-chip crusted blue corn grit cakes rather than a bowl of grits. The crispy-on-the-outside, creamy-on-the-inside grit cakes are a surprise to guests and the dish has quickly become a favorite of many regulars.
