Florida based Via Airlines announced today that they are entering the  Birmingham airline market adding new nonstop service between Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport and the cities of Mobile (MOB), Austin (AUS), Pittsburgh (PIT), and Raleigh (RDU).

The new nonstop flights will bring Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport’s number of nonstop destinations up 22% from 18 airports to 22 airports in 19 cities. Via Airlines will join American, Delta, Southwest, United and Frontier airlines in serving more than 2.8 million passengers each year at BHM.

“Working together with the business community, we were very strategic in our approach to gain nonstop service to the selected cities,” said Sylvester Lavender, Birmingham Airport Authority’s Interim President and CEO.

“From the aerospace industry in Mobile, to the innovative technology scene in Austin and Pittsburgh, and to the inspiring, bold ideas of the research park in Raleigh, we are making it easier for Birmingham to connect with more economic opportunities, strengthening businesses and partnerships with those communities.”

Via Airlines will operate 50-seat Embraer ERJ145s, providing passengers with cost-effective, convenient and comfortable travel.

“Birmingham is an amazing city and we’re excited about the opportunity to serve both its business and leisure travelers with nonstop jet service to Pittsburgh, Austin, Raleigh, and Mobile from Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport,” said Irit Vizer, Via Airlines’ President and COO.

Via Airlines is the second low cost carrier established at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Airport in the past year, joining Frontier Airlines, which became Birmingham’s 5th airline at the airport in April of 2018.

Along with the Magic City and Mobile,  Via Airlines also has a presence in Montgomery, Alabama.
