Are you tired of celebrating UAB’s best football season in program history? Nope? Good, because neither are we. Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin declared January 18 ‘UAB Blazers Football Day.’ The city of Birmingham will host a Championship Parade that same day through campus to celebrate.
The parade starts at 4pm, and will start near the UAB Administration Building and travel down University Blvd. The parade will stop at the Football Operations Center, where they’ll also hold a pep rally to conclude the celebration.
“Our fans and our team both deserve the opportunity to celebrate together,” said Director of Athletics Mark Ingram. “We are incredibly grateful for the Mayor’s leadership for making this happen. This will be a lot of fun and hopefully this is just the first of many to come.”
Won as One
To say the UAB Blazers football team returned to the field with something to prove would be an understatement. The Blazers won the program’s first Conference USA Championship back in December 2018, and won 11 games-another school record. They won their first bowl game on Decemebr 18 by defeating Northern Illinois in the Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl.
It’s no surprise that the sports world is taking notice of this team’s incredible achievements. Head Coach Bill Clark was named the 2018 Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year, as well as the CBS Sports and Sporting News National Coach of the Year.
“This is Birmingham’s team. What these young men accomplished under the leadership of Coach Clark is simply amazing,” Mayor Randall Woodfin said.
