It’s been a rainy, chilly winter so far, and it’s looking like we’ll have a little more rain before we get clear, sunny days in Birmingham. The best way to combat the drizzly, gloomy weather? A bowl of nice warm soup, of course!

Urban Standard is located on 2nd Avenue North and it is one of Birmingham’s coolest cafes. In addition to a wide selection of coffee and tea drinks as well as beer and wine, they have a fantastic menu featuring pastries and sweets alongside veggie burgers, reuben sandwiches, salads and of course, soups. Their soup changes daily, so check their Instagram account for updates. They offer menu items that cater to many different diets as well — I recently had a gluten free chicken noodle soup there that was some of the best I’ve ever had, and the soup featured above is both vegan and gluten free!

At brick & tin, you’ll find a delicious menu featuring soup, salads and sandwiches. According to one yelp user, this combo (the brisket sandwich with tomato soup), is “life changing.” Tomato soup is a personal favorite of mine, and I can say that brick & tin’s is absolutely delicious. They also have butternut squash and mushroom soups.

Chez Lulu is a charming European-style eatery, so it was no surprise that one of their best-selling soups is the classic french onion soup! Their soup selections also depend on which you day you go, so you’ll have to check the menu specials board to find out what they’ve got in rotation for you that day. Some of their other soup offerings include mushroom and peasant garlic. The soup is served with toasted bread, and you can’t go wrong no matter which soup you pick!
