Sometimes it’s good to get out of the house on Christmas Day. Maybe the festivities have waned, and you’re ready for a change of scenery. Maybe you just want something to do that doesn’t involve candy canes, carols, or cards. Maybe all the togetherness has been a little too much . . . togetherness. Whatever your reasons, we’ve got you covered with a list of what’s open on Christmas Day in Birmingham .

1. Feast at the Grand Bohemian’s Habitat Feed and Social in Mountain Brook

What's open on Christmas Day in Birmingham? Brunch at The Grand Bohemian in Mountain Brook

$59 per adult, and $24 per child, gets you a super-fancy brunch buffet at the Grand Bohemian from 11-2:30. Thankfully, they’ll supply the food, the atmosphere (including music), and a mimosa for your pleasure, and you won’t have to clean a thing. For this one, you will want to make a reservation. Details here.

2. Go geocaching at a local park

We’re spoiled for choice here in Birmingham, when it comes to beautiful places to go outside. Not surprisingly, many of them have geocaches to find – rumor has it that the Birmingham area has 2380 geocaches.

What's open on Christmas Day in Birmingham? Geocaching!

Geocaching is like a big outdoor scavenger hunt. When you’re ready to get started, you just need the Geocaching iPhone App and a well-charged phone. Then you can head out in search of treasure. Fun for the whole family.

Even if you aren’t Jewish but like the idea of eating Chinese food on Christmas, my personal favorite is The Red Pearl, located in the back of the Super Oriental Market, on Green Springs Highway. The garlic eggplant is delicious.

No need to get cabin fever this Christmas. Let someone else do the cooking, go take a hike (and go geocaching at the same time), catch a movie, grab a drink, or go hear some live country rock. Whatever you choose, we hope it’s a good one.
