4 tenants, including craft beer and Wasabi Juan’s, headed to The Battery on 2nd Ave. South
Reading time: 4 minutes
Birmingham’s newest development is adding tenants left and right. The Battery, named for its original tenant, BEBCO (Birmingham Electric Battery Company) has now welcomed four tenants to its space.
Located on 2nd Avenue S and one block from the new Rotary Trail, The Battery is set to feature a mix of eclectic and vibrant businesses.
It’s only two blocks from the new Publix and next door to the Birmingham School of Law, so that means Iron City and Workplay are a short walk away.
Ward Neely of SRS Real Estate Partners said The Battery’s development is a way to connect Midtown to Lakeview, and the tenants are going to be contemporary.
“We want funky, Neely said.”
We are so excited to welcome them to downtown. Read all about the BEBCO-to-The Battery journey here.
Fitness First
True40 Bham
True40 is a fitness studio that was started in Auburn by Allie Weingarten. She’s now expanded to five studios, including one in Atlanta. The new downtown location at The Battery, which opened on August 2nd, is owned by Kaitlyn Bentley. The classes at the boutique fitness studio are different every time and last for one hour. They are low-impact and focus on core strengthening. True40 was the first tenant to open at The Battery. Find their hours and class schedule here.
Craft Beer + Birmingham’s Mining History
Birmingham District Brewing Company
Birmingham’s newest brewery was the second tenant to sign on for a space at The Battery. Birmingham District Brewing Company is a craft brewery that is inspired by the mining history and roots of Birmingham.
Their name comes from the term geologists in the 1800s used to describe the area between Springville and Vance as “The Birmingham District.” Make sure to stop in for a refreshing beer after your workout at True40. They are offering four signature pints: an IPA, an amber, a stout and a blonde.
World Famous, Now In Alabama
Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken
Also signed on to open at The Battery is Memphis favorite Gus’s Fried Chicken. This “World Famous” hot-and-spicy fried chicken has already spread from its roots in Memphis to over 13, and Birmingham will be its first Alabama location. The famous chicken is accompanied on the menu by dishes like fried pickles, mac ‘n’ cheese, beans, slaw and of course, pie and vanilla ice cream. Gus’s is a hit all around the country, and it’s sure to be a hot spot here in Birmingham.
A Birmingham Favorite
Wasabi Juan’s
Though they are not newcomers to the Birmingham food scene, they are the latest tenant to sign on at The Battery. Wasabi Juan’s, a popular sushi-burrito restaurant, opened in Avondale in the summer of 2014.
They will be closing their original location in Avondale and moving to this bigger space at The Battery in the coming months. They also have a location in Hoover and a new food truck as well! Their mexican-sushi mashup is unique and different in the Birmingham food scene, and they will be a great addition.
