From storefront to LIVE stage

The Birmingham Children’s Theatre has partnered with Brookwood Village to convert a storefront into a theater. You got that right!  This will give the audience a more interactive exciting experience. The audience will surround the show, seeing the action from all angles.

Theatre for date night

Are you secretly envious of kids who get to have all the fun?  Fret no more my friend.  The Birmingham Children’s Theatre has been working to provide family-focused shows in addition to youth-focused programming. This summer they have kicked off a new series called Magic City Theatre Festival offering live theatre appropriate for all.  What a fresh idea for date night!

Director and Executive Artistic Director for Birmingham Children’s Theatre, Brandon Bruce said

“You will be in the action. It will be impossible not to be. This show is high energy and filled with lots of big sword fights.”

Professional talent

Bruce enlisted the help of professional fight choreographer Alexis Black from Michigan State University to help choreograph the 10 sword fights that happen throughout the show.

“Playing d’Artagnan is like playing a dream role that I didn’t know was out there. This process has been one of the most interesting and eventful ones that I have ever been a part of. I found the audition online and thought that it would be a cool experience to be in a show with some sword fighting let alone be able to act in my first professional show.  Boy, I did not know what I was getting myself into…” – Christian Hatcher

The cast is filled with 18 talented actors, and the show will feature more women than other adaptations of The Three Musketeers. One of the lead roles, Porthos, is played by actress Jesse Graham. Graham is a professor at Troy University.

When talking about the cast and the goals of the show Bruce said,

“With this show, we are trying to appeal to a universal audience. The show isn’t just for children but everyone, all ages are welcome!”

A little history never hurt

It’s 1625 and d’Artagnan, along with his sister Sabine, sets off for Paris in search of adventure. They soon become entwined with the greatest heroes of the day – Athos, Porthos, and Aramis; the famous Musketeers – and join in a mission to defend the Queen of France. Based on the timeless swashbuckling tale by Alexandre Dumas, a tale of heroism, treachery, friendship, close escapes, and, above all, honor.

The Three Musketeers will open on Thursday July 12th at 7pm and will continue until Sunday July 29th, and will take place at the round in Brookwood Village.
