Darter Beer to be previewed tonight

According to Cahaba Brewing’s Jesse Hill, the Darter Beer will be ideal for the upcoming Darter Festival.

“It’s a pilsner styled beer. The idea was to make this for an outdoor event, hot weather, easy drinking. You can have a couple of them. It’s light, got some malt character, it’s fairly hoppy, but not by American hop crazy standards.”

The Darter Beer will be previewed only at tonight’s Goodwill Wednesday.  After the event, the official release for the Darter Beer will be on April 15th the day of the Darter Festival.  After the event, it will then be available at the Cahaba Brewing taproom until the batch  is sold out.

Both Goodwill Wednesday and the Darter Festival  support Southern Environmental Center’s conservation and education programs at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve, home to unique and federally protected populations of Vermilion, Watercress, and Rush Darter Fishes. The Vermilion Darter can only be found in Turkey Creek and nowhere else in the world.

Natural partnership

Roald Hazelhoff, executive director of the Southern Environmental Center described how the Cahaba Brewing Company’s support of the darters is a natural fit.

“This is a natural partnership with a brewery named after a river – and a fish that can only survive in clean rivers.

And as Jesse would tell you, you can’t have good beer without good water. That ‘s how this all fits together.”

So, come out tonight for Cahaba Brewing’s Goodwill Wednesday supporting the Turkey Creek Nature Preserve. Try their new Darter Beer, and purchase your tickets now for the April 15th Darter Festival at Cahaba Brewing.
