By now you must know that we have a new super-hero; Birmingham’s own Da’Ron Payne.
Da’Ron Payne, the Crimson Tide defensive lineman was indeed a super-hero throughout the Allstate Sugar Bowl semifinal game Monday night; picking up a key interception, then running it 21 yards to the Clemson 42-yard line.
Then the TOUCHDOWN!
But wait…Payne went on to and catch a 1-yard pass from his quarterback, Jalen Hurts, to score a story-book touchdown, giving the Tide a 17-6 lead over the Tigers. Payne also contributed two tackles and one pass breakup Monday night.
Seems Da’Ron’s relentless work, and practice, and his persistent pleading to the UA coaching staff paid off…big-time!
“I had been talking to coach lots about it. He said, ‘Just keep on working, and you might get it.’ And I tried my best to go out and practice and work hard, and they finally gave it to me.” Da’Ron Payne.
Tide quarterback Jalen Hurts and defensive tackle Da’Ron Payne were named Allstate Offensive and Defensive MVP amid a confetti storm following Alabama’s 24-6 win over Clemson.
Whether you are a Tide fan, or root for the Auburn Tigers, it’s an exciting time for SEC football fans and for this Birmingham, AL family!
Irondale’s Shades Valley High School All-American.
Payne is a lineman who can bench 550 pounds, squatting 600+ and he can run the 40-yard dash in about 5 seconds flat. He played high school football under Coach William Smith at Shades Valley High School, Birmingham, AL.
In 2015 Rivals.com and Scout.com rated him the No. 1 player in Alabama. He was listed as the No. 1 defensive tackle and the No. 7 overall prospect in America for 2015 by 247.sports.com. Though the All-American Da’Ron grew up an Auburn fan, like his beloved grand father, he chose to play football for Alabama over Auburn, Florida State, Clemson and Georgia. And…did you know there are two talented Payne brothers, his twin is an artist.
