Curt Morris, the owner of La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries in Birmingham and his staff were elated.

When they saw the truck carrying about a hundred recliners and various pieces of furniture parked in the Ronald McDonald House driveway, this week before Christmas, Morris and his staff  literally jumped inside and proudly start unloading the furniture.

For years, nationally, there has been a partnership between Ronald McDonald House and La-Z-Boy. In Birmingham the relationship between the local La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries and the Ronald McDonald House is personal.

More than just providing furniture, employees from La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries stores in and around Birmingham, visit the House monthly to cook meals and provide much needed love and fellowship to the families.

Presently, Ronald McDonald House is about to expand and double its occupancy.

“We are putting chairs in the rooms, we are putting sofas throughout the house and providing comfort they desperately need.  These families have so many worries and cares, we just make for them a place of peace,” stated Morris.

A beloved community, Ronald McDonald House provides a supportive “home-away-from-home” for families and their children who are receiving medical treatment at Children’s of Alabama, UAB, or other area hospitals.

They provide  families a home, and a support network – so they can focus on their children’s healing.

Without the Ronald McDonald House, families might have to sleep in the hospital lobby, a child’s hospital room or even in their cars, as most families cannot afford a hotel for weeks or months.

The House located in the center of the Medical District is Birmingham’s only affordable temporary housing facility for sick children and their families.

The power of giving back

Morris understands the power of giving back and the impact it has not only on the lives of the residents at Ronald McDonald House, but on the entire La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries family.

“We have a staff call every Tuesday morning and recently I thanked everybody on that call, all our managers and key people.  I thanked them for the year, for what we have done, and what we accomplished, Morris said.

I said, you folks are family. We spend more time with each other than we do with our own families. I just really appreciate them.  And that meant much more today, after we made this contribution to Ronald McDonald House.

All of the folks who were on that call are here (Ronald McDonald House) today helping.  We are so fortunate. We just want to give back, give peace to the families, to allow them to rest,” Morris concluded.

What a wonderful gift La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries has given to Ronald McDonald House this holiday season. Peace, rest and family.
