From lineman to president: meet Wayne Hutchens, new AT&T Alabama president
AT&T Alabama has announced their new president, Birmingham community member, Wayne Hutchens.
AT&T’s impact on Alabama is more than $350 million annually to include payroll, taxes, goods and services, corporate giving and volunteer hours. From 2013-2015, AT&T invested more than $1.1 billion in Alabama in our wireless and wired networks. As one of the world’s largest providers of pay TV, broadband and wireless services, AT&T helps millions around the world connect with leading entertainment, business, mobile and high-speed internet services.
We have a long history of investing in Alabama — 138 years and counting, and I am excited about many more years ahead. Wayne Hutchens.
I am honored to have been appointed as President of AT&T Alabama. We have an outstanding team in the State and I look forward to working on the opportunities and issues in a rapidly changing industry with this team. Wayne Hutchens.
Wayne Hutchens is a native of Tennessee but has called Alabama home since 1983. He is a true testament to the American dream. In 1971 Wayne began his career as a lineman for South Central Bell company.
Through hard work and grit, Hutchens stopped scaling high telephone poles, and made his way up the ladder of AT&T to serve as the director of regulatory and external affairs in Alabama and docket/issues manager for Alabama, Louisiana, South Carolina and Tennessee.
Mr. Hutchens received a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Samford University and a Master’s degree in Public & Private Administration from Birmingham-Southern College. He has served as a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Regional School Board and Catholic Diocese of Birmingham School Board. Wayne and his wife, Sharon, have eight children; Tracey, Adam, Erin, Katie, Greg, Laura, Joan, and Jonathan.
It is now incumbent upon us to build upon past successes and focus on new opportunities. Wayne Hutchens.
