By now everyone knows that Birmingham is a city of great restaurants and that lots of people here are self-proclaimed “foodies.” But did you know many of the city’s restaurants welcome your four-legged “foodies” too?
Bham Now has a special dog-friendly restaurant expert!
Meet Barkley, a rescue Great Pyrenees adopted from the Greater Birmingham Humane Society. Barkley is one of the “it-girls” of Instagram’s #dogsofbham. She and her human, Jane Gardner frequent quite a few dog friendly restaurants around the Magic City.

Rojo: This restaurant in the Highland Park area, serves up great Latin and American food in a laid back atmosphere. The outdoor dining patio area is a great place for you and your pup to relax after enjoying a great meal. 2921 Highland Ave.
Black Market: Barkley highly recommends this fun place! The big patio overlooking 5-Points in Southside is a great place for relaxing. There is plenty of room there for your dog to feel comfortable. Black Market has great drink specials, trivia night and killer bar food. 1035 20th St S.
Moe’s BBQ: Who doesn’t like BBQ and wings? You can slip your dog a few morsels of Moe’s excellent BBQ and let him drink from the dog bowls on the patio at Moe’s. Enjoy great food, a laid back vibe and cold beer. 731 29th St S.
Baha Burger: If you want a unique burger and to take your pup with you, check out Baha’s gourmet burgers. They offer the classic burgers we all know and love, plus a lean turkey version, a salmon burger, a Memphis style pork burger and a veggie one. Delta Blues: Home of one of the top ten patios in Alabama, this tamale joint serves up awesome Delta tamales and lots of other great food. Dogs and their humans can enjoy the charming patio, and the extensive menu, that has vegan and gluten free choices!
Babalu: What could be better than interesting tapas and spicy tacos? Babalu offers so much more than tacos. With such a diverse menu, you will be walking your pooch near Babalu on the regular, just for a chance to stop in to grab a quick treat. Dogs are welcome on the patio! Chez LuLu: This charming spot in English Village specializes in casual bistro-style French cuisine and offers dog-friendly outdoor seating.
So, keep an eye out for Barkley, her new little sister, Magnolia and her humans, the Gardners. Barkley is super-friendly and she’s used to quite a bit of attention from her Instagram fans!
