UAB helping prescribe local parks for patients
Reading time: 1 minute
Prescribing a healthy living prescription is becoming more common than you think. From eating healthier to opportunities for getting active, studies have shown that these combative measures will protect you from obesity, as well as some chronic diseases such as stroke and diabetes. That is why the UAB Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Center has partnered with Birmingham REACH for Better Health and successfully introduced a Parks Prescription program right here in our city.
This program allows for health care providers to prescribe exercise for their patients and it will directly link them to outdoor places to exercise. Now finding places to get outside is only one click away. With interactive maps based on zip codes, patients are more likely to follow the doctor’s orders, leading to healthier individuals in our community.
This amazing interface is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. For more information, click here.
Thanks UAB for helping to take #GetOutside to the next level.
