Yes? You might be a good fit for the Marketing and Communications Associate at the YMCA of Greater Birmingham!

You’ll be instrumental in supporting our organization’s mission through graphic design, digital communication, brand advocacy, and storytelling. Reporting directly to the Director of Marketing & Communications, you’ll collaborate daily with branch and program leaders to bring our brand to life!

Essential Functions:

  • Graphic Design: Create visually compelling digital and print materials using Canva Pro, ensuring alignment with YMCA brand standards.

  • Signage & Printing: Coordinate the production of flyers, banners, posters, and other materials to support association initiatives.

  • Digital Communications: Develop engaging graphics for digital channels, including social media, website, lobby TVs and mobile app.

  • Vendor Relations: Maintain relationships with vendors to ensure quality, pricing transparency, and brand compliance.

  • Special Event Support: Assist in planning and executing major events, providing design and promotional materials.

  • Website & Mobile Maintenance: Update and maintain our website and mobile app content to reflect current initiatives and programs.

  • Email Marketing: Coordinate email campaigns to effectively communicate with our membership base and stakeholders.

  • Social Media: Assist in content creation and scheduling for our social media platforms, including TikTok and Instagram.

  • Brand Champion: Uphold YMCA brand standards and assist in staff training to ensure consistent messaging and compliance.

  • Storytelling: Capture the YMCA’s impact through video, photography, and written content, showcasing our mission and programs.

  • Training & Support: Provide technical assistance and training to content leaders and branches to streamline workflow and enhance brand compliance.

  • Board and Special Meetings: Provide added support to the marketing director for association board events and board communication.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or Graphic Design preferred

  • 1-2 years of recent experience in graphic design, communications, or marketing required

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva Pro)

  • Familiarity or willingness to learn video/audio editing programs

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work independently

  • Successful completion of background checks and relevant certifications (e.g., First Aid/CPR/AED)

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including walking, standing, and lifting

  • Visual and auditory ability to perform essential job functions

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with Canva Pro and videography/photography

  • Enthusiasm for the latest social media trends, particularly TikTok and Instagram, and a passion for fitness.
