VST Community Series March 1-17
March 1, 2024 - March 17, 2024
The stage heats up this March at the Virginia Samford Theatre during the first-ever Community Series event. From hilarious improv sketches to musical narratives, local talent is coming together for four shows you won’t want to miss. Grab your tickets now.
1. Gladys Improv—March 1
Get ready to laugh yourself silly in this side-splitting show. In this show, local improv masters Michael Greene, Jacob Simmons and Tim Casper bring their own version of long-form improv called “Gladys” to the VST stage.
What’s especially fun about the show is that the audience plays a big part in what unfolds on stage. Before the performance begins, Michael, Jacob and Tim take a suggestion from the audience and improvise a full piece of comedy live.
With their lightening fast wit and wacky antics, you won’t want to miss it!

2. Here Comes Sunshine—March 2
You’ll want to don that beloved tie dye tee for this one, Bham. Here Comes Sunshine takes you on an epic trip through the history of the Grateful Dead through story and song.
Conceived by local poet and DeadHead Matt Layne, VST Executive Director Philip Mann and Birmingham jam band legends T.U.B. The UnKnamed Band, this is one show you won’t want to miss.

3. An Evening with Mark Twain—March 8 + 9
If you love the writings of Mark Twain, this insightful and comedic collection of stories is a must-see this March.
While Birmingham actor Edward Miller told us he has performed the show for over 40 years, the VST performance on March 8 will feature something new—live music!
Accompanying Miller in his role as Mark Twain is Bobby Horton, a local musician who has worked as instrumentalist/arranger for Ken Burns of PBS.
With an amazing duo like this, it’s sure to be an incredible evening.
Show details:
- When: Friday, March 8, 7:30PM | Saturday, March 9, 2:30PM
- Cost: $25

4. The Dill Pickers 25th Anniversary Show—March 15-17
Leave all your expectations at the theatre door for this show. The Dill Pickers 25th Anniversary Show goes above and beyond.
A vocal string band, The Dill Pickers got their start back in 1999 as the cast of Birmingham’s first Off-Broadway musical production of Smoke on The Mountain.
As a group of performers/musicians, the group brings their talents to the stage with music and story. The result? An experience you’ll never forget!
“Variety and craziness stands out in our shows. We each play multiple instruments and are constantly switching them around.”
Norton Dill, The Dill Pickers
May 15-17 you can celebrate this beloved band during their 25th Anniversary Show at the Virginia Samford Theatre. Trust us, you’ll have a blast.
