Theatrical Arts of Asia
July 17, 2024 @ 12:00 pm - 12:30 pm
Explore the mesmerizing world of Asian theatrical arts with Dr. Katherine Anne Paul, The Virginia and William M. Spencer III Curator of Asian Art. Drawing inspiration from our Heroes & Villains exhibition, this ArtBreak invites attendees to learn more about Asia’s rich performing traditions. Examine the duality of emotions captured by Japanese Noh masks, the vibrant face paints of Kabuki theater, the versatile artistry of Chinese opera performers, and the trance-inducing dances of Korean shamans. With a collection of thirty significant works on display, gain insights into how these art forms elevate famous performers, plays, and stories, intertwining heroism and villainy in their narrative tapestries.
Note: This program does not grant free access to the Heroes & Villains exhibition; admission must be purchased separately.
