“Our Voices” Community Arts Showcase – Art Sale and Live Performances by InToto’s Participating Artists

It’s that time again! We’re getting ready for the next installment of Our Voices, our public exhibition featuring artwork and live performances by InToto’s participating artists! We are so thrilled to again be hosted by the beautiful @avenuedbham for this wonderful community event!

Shop InToto artwork from 5:30-8:30pm. Our artists (Birmingham community members who are affected by homelessness, incarceration, or mental health challenges) will receive 80% of their art sales directly. Live performances including poetry readings, creative movement, and theater acts will take place from 6-7:30pm. Heavy hors d’oeuvres provided.

🎶 We also have some exciting musical performances planned this time around from both InToto artists as well as special guest Miki Sawada of @gather_hear_tour who is on a national tour providing classical music experiences to folks who don’t normally have access to this art form.

💕 Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us no matter your financial status! If you have the means, we will graciously accept donations in support of our work to bring arts, healing, and connection to InToto artists.

Our Mission:
InToto Creative Arts Forum provides opportunities for artistic expression, healing, and connection for people affected by social and economic hardships.
We partner with community service organizations to serve some of the most vulnerable communities in Birmingham with visual art, creative writing, movement, and theater classes. Folks who are affected by severe adversities are provided space, materials, and guidance to explore creatively.

Our Voices:
Each year, InToto gives voice to participating artists through a public facing showcase. Visual arts, creative writing, theater, and creative movement pieces are developed under the guidance of InToto teaching artists during our weekly classes and presented to the larger Birmingham community. “Our Voices” is an opportunity for InToto artists to show off their creations and to earn income through an 80% commission on art sales. This event is open at all and is a time to celebrate the power of the arts as a tool for catharsis and therapeutic healing and to recognize the immense impact on these lives. We have found that these community gatherings are helping to break down preconceptions around homelessness, incarceration, and mental illness in our city. “Our Voices” brings people together that may not otherwise get a chance to listen to or learn from each other. We want to live in a community where we are not judged by the hardships that we face, but are honored for our creative contributions, and “Our Voices” is helping to bring us closer to this dream.
