Event Details:

Dates and Times:

Friday, October 18th  10:00 am

Saturday, October 19th   11:00 am and 2:00 pm

Location: Avondale Amphitheater (in Avondale Park)

Rusalka: The Littlest Mermaid is a heartwarming and enchanting operatic retelling of the classic tale. Sung in English, this 45-minute performance follows the adventures of the daring young water nymph, Rusalka, who dares to dream big dreams, and will sacrifice to reach her heart’s desire.

Rusalka falls in love with a handsome, young, (but human) prince. She asks a Sea Witch for help, and the witch agrees to turn Rusalka into a human—but there’s a catch! Rusalka will lose her voice, and if the prince doesn’t love her back, she’ll be trapped forever between the water and land.

With its beautiful music, especially the famous “Song to the Moon”, this opera is a tale of love and sacrifice that will capture the imaginations of young and old alike.  Colorful scenery, imaginative costumes and delightful puppets will transform the audience into a world under the seas!

Located on the south side of Avondale Park, Avondale Amphitheater, with its stone risers and open lawn space, provides a comfortable and inviting setting for this outdoor opera event. Patrons are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets for a relaxed and enjoyable day. Bring your own refreshments to complete your operatic picnic experience!
