Firehouse Community Arts Center End of Year Bash
December 19, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
$20 – $100On Tuesday, December 19th, the Firehouse Community Arts Center will host its End of the Year Bash at Saturn. The event, which celebrates the year and raises funds for the future, will be headlined by legendary rockers the Dexateens and will also feature performances by Firehouse students with K.R.U. and Matt Patton of the the Dexateens, Model Citizen, and Drive-By Truckers. For the Soul Review, Patton, an avid record collector and owner of Dial Back Studios, will select a setlist of classic soul songs for the students to perform. Tickets to the December 19th event are available online at saturnbirmingham.com.
Founded in 2020, but with much deeper roots in Birmingham’s DIY music scene, the Firehouse brings young people from different backgrounds together through music. Each week the Firehouse engages more than 80 students, ages 5-18, through individual lessons from professional musicians, with nearly 30% of students learning at a reduced cost or on full scholarship. Additionally, the Firehouse reaches more students with free off-site music programs in select Birmingham City Schools and recreation centers.
Through the support of events like The End of Year Bash, the Firehouse looks to make music lessons accessible to even more young people. “The opportunity for our students to share the stage with K.R.U., Matt Patton, and the Dexateens is huge,” stated Eric Wallace, the founder and Executive Director of the Firehouse CAC. “All of these musicians have given so much to our city’s rich music scene, and connecting them with Birmingham’s musical future is going to be really special.”
