Curious about encaustic? This workshop covers the basics of this wax-based paint and introduces you to the myriad of techniques to explore — including image transfer, incising, building and removing layers, collage, glazing and more. On Day 3 we will turn down the heat a bit, and learn what’s possible when encaustic is used with paper.

February is the perfect time to discover this warm and incredibly forgiving paint medium.

Appropriate for all experience levels.

Student Supply List:
– 6 – 8 raw wood or Encausticbord panels to paint on, keep sizes small (5×5,
6×6, 5×7, 8×8) They may be flat or cradled; nothing previously painted, gessoed, or varnished. The wax adheres best to a raw wood or porous surface.
– 1 roll (1″ wide) painter’s tape for delicate surfaces.

– a bamboo baren
– vinyl / synthetic gloves
– several sheets of clean newsprint or a 9×12″ pad of newsprint
