Build A Better You: Day Party with a Purpose

UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company and The United Methodist Church Strengthening the Black Church for the 21st Century (SBC21) program will host Build A Better You: Day Party With A Purpose, A Better You health and wellness education event, in Birmingham to help African Americans ages 60 and above and other Medicare beneficiaries learn more about Medicare and their healthcare coverage options. A Better You encourages people to plan for healthy living and provides access to resources and information they need to make informed healthcare coverage decisions.

The event will bring attendees together for a Medicare workshop to promote health literacy and holistic health. Attendees will learn about the basics of Medicare – including the different parts of the program, eligibility requirements, and enrollment windows – to help them make informed healthcare coverage decisions.

The A Better You experience will also feature tips from renowned speakers to motivate and engage attendees with helpful information to plan for continued healthy living.

Ernestine “Ernie” Shepherd, a personal trainer, a professional model, and competitive bodybuilder, will partner with A Better You to speak to the benefits of staying fit and the positive effects its had on helping her through life’s challenging moments.
Yohnnie Shambourger, a former Mr. Universe, will share nutrition and healthy living tips that anyone can implement at home.
Attendees will also hear from UnitedHealthcare’s Rita Tolbert, who will facilitate the Medicare education portion of the events. Rita Tolbert has more than 25 years of experience in the health insurance industry. She works passionately to help African Americans gain a clearer understanding of Medicare and take control of their healthcare through education.
