Birmingham Zoo Offers Free Admission to Military and Dependents in Honor of Memorial Day Weekend; 200 Butterflies Being Added Friday, May 24

BIRMINGHAM, AL – Birmingham Zoo will be open on the Memorial Day holiday, Monday May 27, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. In honor of the selfless service and of the Memorial Day Holiday, all veterans, active and retired military, including their dependents (up to six) will receive FREE admission to the Birmingham Zoo. From Saturday, May 25 through Monday, May 27, bring proof of valid identification to receive complimentary admission, provided by Trinka Davis Foundation.

In time for Memorial Day, your Birmingham Zoo will be adding 200 butterflies to butterfly habitat in Alabama Wilds on Friday, May 24. Additionally, Zoo guests can enjoy seasonal favorites and special activities including the Junior League of Birmingham Hugh Kaul Children’s Zoo including the splash pads, animal encounters, Giraffe Feedings at the Kiwanis Giraffe Encounter*, Lorikeet feedings*, rides on the Red Diamond Express Train* and climbs on the Full Moon Bar-B-Que Adventure Tower* as we welcome the summer season! Mopane, the baby giraffe, has access to the outdoor giraffe habitat from 10 a.m. to noon each day.
