Abandoned and dilapidated homes and buildings pose a huge challenge for many cities across the country. Birmingham’s new mayor, Randall Woodfin, has an aggressive plan to reduce this urban blight, by demolishing one of these derelict structures every day!

Time Inc. owner of Birmingham’s Southern Living, sold to Meredith Corp.

On this Cyber Monday, it’s not just Christmas presents that are being sold and purchased. A big media purchase is in the news today and impacts Birmingham.  Southern Living’s parent company, Time Inc. has been purchased by Meredith Corporation publisher of Better Homes & Gardens.

Vacant, historic Protective Life building has been purchased

There has been quite a bit of construction, renovation and development in Birmingham recently, especially on the North Side of the city . The latest, the historic and vacant Commerce Center or the former Protective Life building, sold for $2.875 million.
