If you’ve driven through downtown Birmingham the last few days, you’ve likely noticed something new in the city skyline: six giant silos sporting Pepsi’s signature blue, white lettering and its iconic globe logo.

But just how did it get there?

Bham Now met with the two Birmingham family-owned businesses behind the project: Buffalo Rock Company and Southern Armature Works—to learn more about the project and get an up-close look at the finished product.

Six silos and one big idea

Visible from the interchange connecting Red Mountain Expressway and Interstate 59/20, the new Pepsi logo is the result of a project seven years in the making.

In 2019, family-owned automotive repair shop Southern Armature Works moved to 2720 Seventh Ave. N, a historic manufacturing and industrial property dating back to 1935. The property’s silos were used to store pellets used in plastic packaging production; now that they were no longer needed for that purpose, owners Terry and Charles Rumore began thinking about what could come next.

“We’ve always thought the silos looked like giant beverage cans, so Pepsi immediately came to mind. When we had the opportunity to welcome Buffalo Rock to our property, we thought this would be a great way to give the old structures a new look. We’re both family-owned Birmingham businesses with a long history in this community, and it’s exciting to see the idea come to life.”

The idea took shape over the past year, culminating in the installation of the Pepsi-branded wraps during the final week of October 2026.

Using specialized rappelling gear, crews primed each of the six silos and installed specially-made vinyl wraps to bring Pepsi’s signature blue color, bold white lettering and iconic globe logo to life across the towering structures.

Standing 45 feet tall from the base to the top, the sextet of Pepsi-branded silos will be seen by the tens of thousands of motorists traveling on the Red Mountain Expressway and I-59/20 each day.

“Pepsi has a rich history of bold, iconic branding, and its signature blue and unmistakable globe logo have made the brand recognizable for generations. As our flagship soft drink trademark and a partner for 75 years, Pepsi was the obvious choice for this project. The six silos offered a unique canvas to bring that brand identity to life in an unexpected way, along one of Birmingham’s most traveled corridors.”

Buffalo Rock Company celebrates 75 years with Pepsi; 125 years with Birmingham

Completed during the final weekend of October 2026, the new installation’s timing is especially meaningful to Buffalo Rock.

Founded in Birmingham in 1901, the company recently celebrated 125 years in Birmingham; today, Buffalo Rock is the nation’s largest single family-owned Pepsi and Dr Pepper bottler, serving approximately 7 million consumers throughout Alabama, western Georgia and the Florida Panhandle.

The six silos also presented an opportunity to showcase a brand that’s been part of Buffalo Rock’s story since 1951. 75 years after establishing a partnership with the Pepsi-Cola franchise, Buffalo Rock continues to manufacture Pepsi here in the Magic City.

“Birmingham is where Buffalo Rock’s story began 125 years ago, and it’s still home today. We’re especially proud that Pepsi isn’t just a brand we distribute throughout the region. It’s a product we manufacture right here in Birmingham, supported by generations of local Employee-Partners. When the opportunity to collaborate with another longtime Birmingham business came along, it felt like a natural way to celebrate our shared roots and our 75-year partnership with Pepsi.”
