Good news, Titusville: your neighborhood library is officially back open.

On September 29, 2026, the Titusville Branch of the Birmingham Public Library reopened after it was closed to repair the building’s  structural issues in May 2026.

Rebirth of the Titusville Branch of Birmingham Public Library

Approximately 100+ Titusville residents celebrated the rebirth of the beloved neighborhood library.

“I’ve personally been coming to Titusville Library since I was little. So it was humbling to attend this event as we reopen these doors to imagination and learning for a whole new generation of young people.

Even in the face of adversity and uncertainty this library has always stood as a quiet witness to our city’s capacity for change.

Now, it is our turn to ensure that the next generation of students, readers, and dreamers have a sanctuary that is worthy of their potential and lives up to the dreams of all those who came before us to make this possible”

Located in the heart of the neighborhood at 2 Sixth Avenue SW in Birmingham, The Titusville Branch was originally established in 1957.

The current 8,100 square foot building was built in 1992.

In addition to fixing the foundation of the building and cracks in the bathrooms, the inside of the library got a long overdue makeover. Improvements include:

  • New carpeting
  • Fresh painting
  • New flooring in the meeting room and restrooms
  • Updated furnishings

At the reopening celebration, Titusville Branch Library Manager Reba Williams-Patton told Bham Now why the local library matters.

“For this library to reopen, it allows for the community to find a safe space, to find an informational space, to find access to information, and more importantly, it’s a place to find empowerment.”

The Titusville Branch is open Monday thru Friday between 9AM to 6PM.
