One of Birmingham’s favorite record stores just received a national shoutout from Southern Living. In a recent article highlighting ten of the best record stores in the South, the popular lifestyle magazine chose Birmingham’s own Seasick Records as Alabama’s sole representative on the list.
Seasick Records is one of the “10 Best Record Stores in The South,” according to Southern Living

When it comes to buying a vinyl record in 2026, buyers certainly have more choices than they did a few years ago. Thanks to the vinyl record resurgence, shoppers today can find new records at big box stores like Target and Walmart—but there’s something special about buying your favorite artist’s new album at a dedicated record store like Seasick Records.
Founded in 2013 by Dan Drinkard, Seasick Records is a beloved independent record store that buys, sells and trades new and used vinyl records, tape cassettes and CDs. Originally located in Avondale, Seasick Records recently moved to the Lakeview Marina development after outgrowing its previous space in the Avondale Mills Shopping Center.
However, Seasick Records is more than a record shop—it’s a community hub that hosts album release listening parties, in-store concerts for growing local acts and participates each year in Record Store Day, an international event designed to “celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store”.
It’s no wonder Seasick received a nod from Southern Living.
In fact, Seasick was the only Alabama record store featured on Southern Living’s list, which included nine additional standout records shops across the South:
- Harvest Records | Asheville, North Carolina
- Breakaway Records | Austin, Texas
- Moe’s Record Shop | Gainesville, Georgia
- El Donut Shoppe Record Store | Orlando, Florida
- Elk City Records | Charleston, West Virginia
- Forever Young Records | Grand Prairie, Texas
- Papa Jazz Record Shoppe | Columbia, South Carolina
- Guestroom Records Louisville | Louisville, Kentucky
- Domino Sound Record Shack | New Orleans, Louisiana
Whether you’re hunting for a rare edition, picking up a new release or just browsing the “used” bins, Seasick Records is a must-visit destination for music lovers not just in Birmingham, but across the South.
