One of Birmingham Metro’s busiest exits that has been closed over the past month is reopening early just before the July 4th holiday.

On May 18th, ALDOT closed the northbound on and off ramps at Chalkville Mountain Road (Exit 141) on I-59 — a major gateway into Trussville.

According to a Facebook post by the Alabama Department of Transportation, the exit is expected to open this weekend.

Trussville Mayor Ben Short also posted a message thanking the road construction company for getting the job done before the annual Trussville Freedom Celebration.

ALDOT expects the project to add a third lane to I-59 between I-459 and Exit 141 to finish in Spring 2027. Once completed, the congestion in the area should decrease and become safer, benefiting residents of Trussville, Pinson, Clay and Birmingham.
