2 Birmingham-area colleges rank among safest in U.S.

Looking for a college where safety is just as strong as academics? Good news—three Alabama schools are earning national recognition for exactly that, with two being in the Birmingham area. 

Read on for which schools made the list.

Samford University—#3

Making the No. 3 spot is Samford University, one of the nation’s leading private Christian universities, known for its strong undergraduate programs in the liberal arts and its nationally recognized graduate schools, according to Niche.

Coming in at No. 4 is the University of Montevallo, is a public university with a strong liberal arts focus and popular majors including fine arts, kinesiology, exercise science and elementary education.

Niche used several different factors to determine what makes a college campus safe. From student surveys and campus crime rate to alcohol- and drug-related arrests, the rankings-based company did a deep dive into each school.

“Statistics obtained from the U.S. Department of Education represent the most recent data available, as self-reported by the colleges. The same methodology is used to produce the Niche Safety Grade for each ranked college as well as additional colleges.”
