If you have driven through Mountain Brook Village recently, you have most likely circled around the new roundabouts and seen something happening that looks like construction work in front of Bromberg’s, Alabama’s oldest family business.

What’s happening at the iconic jeweler’s location?

They are in the midst of renovating their 67 year-old building.

Last summer, Bromberg’s announced they were updating their Mountain Brook store which will nearly double their retail space and maintain the building’s historic original mid-century modern architectural shell.

Below is a list of the improvements:

  • Fresh stone finishes and bronze exterior accents
  • A larger showroom with gem and precious metal inspired interiors
  • A dedicated space called Bromberg Galleries, housing giftware, bridal registry, fine china, and home décor
  • A new entrance and extended footprint into the adjacent building
  • A luxurious customer lounge and expanded custom design center
  • A unique Rolex environment with an Authorized Rolex Service Center

“We always try to stay current.

We do this (renovation) about once a generation and we’ve had several of them over the course of time since 1959 when the store was built. But this one is the biggest of all. It will literally be a brand new store in an old shell. Plus, we will be picking up additional space in the building next door.”

Ricky Bromberg, President of Bromberg’s, told Bham Now about the 190 year-old business

The renovation is being led by Henry Sprott Long and Associates, the same Birmingham firm behind the original 1959 design of the building and subsequent renovations in 1971 and the early 1990s.

“It’s going to be one of the most attractive jewelry stores in the country. This is a major project for us. There’s a little pain getting there, but it’s going to be worth it in the end. It’s going to be spectacular.”

Bromberg’s will remain open during the entire renovation with no changes to its hours of operation. Customers are also encouraged to continue using the parking lot off Hollywood Blvd. The project is expected to be completed in early 2027.

“Bromberg’s has long been more than a jewelry store; it is a symbol of a Mountain Brook’s tradition, craftsmanship, and enduring sense of place. As this iconic institution begins its next chapter through renovation, we are just as excited for our future generations to walk through its doors as our families have been doing for the past 190 years.”
