5 new businesses + 2 closures in Birmingham this week

It’s a new week in The Magic City, and that means a new roundup of businesses popping up across town.
From a popular coffee shop’s new location in Five Points South to the re-opening of an art museum café, here are five businesses that should be on your radar. Plus, two businesses that are saying farewell.

1. Bandido Coffee | Five Points South


Over the past five months, Bandido Coffee owner Raul Chavez and his team have been building a brand-new, larger space for the coffee shop in Five Points South.
Since opening in the spring of 2024, Bandido Coffee has done well—so well, in fact, that Raul began looking for options to expand. Located at 1101 20th St S—previously home to beloved collectible shop What’s on 2nd—the new Bandido Coffee is bigger and better than ever.
Raul plans to host a launch party for the new location on Valentine’s Day (Saturday, February 14) from noon to 3PM.

2. Brick & Tin | Cahaba Heights

A popular farm-to-table restaurant based in downtown Birmingham is opening a new location in the Birmingham area. Known for its sandwiches, soups and salads made with locally-sourced ingredients, brick & tin’s new location is set to open in Cahaba Heights at the end of the month.
Open for lunch and dinner during the week and brunch on the weekends, brick & tin’s menu includes fan-favorites like the Brisket Panini and Chick & Tin sandwich, mushroom and butternut squash soups as well as a wide array of fresh, locally-sourced salads.
3. Kathy G & Company | Birmingham Museum of Art

The Birmingham Museum of Art (BMA) is reopening its museum café with one of Birmingham’s most popular caterers and restaurateurs: Kathy G & Company, will officially open Café BMA to the public on February 11!
Café BMA will offer lunch service on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 11AM to 2PM. In addition to managing Café BMA, Kathy G. now serves as the on-site caterer for the Birmingham Museum of Art, overseeing food service for museum programs, events, and private functions.
4. Napoli Pizza | Vestavia Hills

The owner of a locally-loved pizzeria in Vestavia Hills has plans to reopen after wrapping up the opening of a new project. After opening back in 2023, Napoli Italian Restaurant & Pizza temporarily closed in January this year due to staffing shortages.
Owner Sam Rinka plans to reopen at some point in the next week, the Vestavia Voice reported. On Wednesday, Feb. 4, Napoli did not appear to be open, but folks at the new restaurant said they expect it to open Monday, Feb. 9.
Rinka’s new restaurant, Caffe di Roma, opened in December in the former home of Papa Murphy’s Pizza at The Bray in Vestavia Hills.

5. Stretch Zone | Highway 280
Stretch Zone, the national wellness franchise focused on stretching and mobility, is planning to open its third Birmingham-area location along U.S. 280 near Greystone.
Founded in Florida in 2004, Stretch Zone is the world’s first and largest practitioner-assisted stretching franchise, with more than 400 locations in 41 states. Located in The Village at Lee Branch, this will be Stretch Zone’s third Birmingham-area location and 11th overall in Alabama.

6. Savage’s Bakery & Deli | Homewood

It’s the announcement that rocked the Magic City: After 87 years, beloved Homewood staple Savage’s Bakery & Deli is closing its doors for good.
Founded in 1939, Savage’s is a mainstay on downtown Homewood’s main drag, known for its original recipes like Meltaways, iced smiley face cookies, gingerbread men and more.
According to its most recent announcement, Savage’s Bakery will close Saturday, February 7.
7. Eddie Bauer | Leeds

Eddie Bauer, the popular century-old outdoor clothing store from Seattle, Washington, has posted “store closing” and “40% to 60%” sale signs at its The Outlets at Grand River location in Leeds.
The iconic brand’s parent company Catalyst Brands, announced it was filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy this month.
It is unclear how long the store will remain open.
