Oak Mountain State Park opened new mountain bike trails and a renovated pump track Tuesday, Dec. 2.

Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Commissioner Chris Blankenship was on hand with representatives from Birmingham Urban Mountain Peddlers (BUMP), Shelby County Commission and others to participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony.

“We can’t do all of the things that we’ve been able to do without great partners around the state. The best partner we have in the state is Shelby County, not just with state parks, but also with Forever Wild and other things like boat ramps.

“…I appreciate the county’s leadership where they understand and see outdoor recreation as an economic incentive for the county.”

Blankenship also praised BUMP calling the local volunteer trail building/mountain bike advocacy  group “passionate” and a “fantastic organization.”

He also thanked Innovate Alabama for providing much of the funding for Oak Mountain State Park’s 10 miles of new state-of-the-art mountain bike trails and renovated pump trail.
