(P.S. To celebrate its opening, Avontuur is giving away a Kingfisher Leatherworks Physician Weekender Bag, valued at $1,150! Find out how to enter here, and the winner will be announced Thursday, November 20.)

2. Vecchia Gelato & Café | Hoover

A new sister restaurant to Vecchia Pizzeria next door, Vecchia Gelato & Café is now open at The Preserve.

3. Primo Grill Pizza & Pasta | Leeds

A new restaurant has opened its doors in Leeds, and it’s serving up favorites sure to please the entire family. The new Italian joint, Primo Grill Pizza & Pasta, recently opened for business on Parkway Drive in the former location of Old Smokey BBQ.

The menu at Sophie’s Kitchen is full of Southern favorites such as beef tips, oxtail, baked chicken and peach cobbler.

One of the Birmingham area’s favorite coffee shops, Cala Coffee, is getting a third location in 2026.

The local coffee chain announced last week on social media that the shop would open in Mountain Brook Village on Montevallo Road. This location, owner Josh Cosio said, will be smaller and “more intimate” than their Cahaba Heights location.

The new Mountain Brook location will feature Cala’s normal selection of pastries from Bandit Pâtisserie and breakfast tacos from Ladybird Taco.

6. Sakéroom | Five Points South

A “chic lounge” is coming soon to the long-vacant Shepherd-Sloss Building located in Five Points South. According to its Instagram, Sakéroom will be Birmingham’s only late-night sushi lounge: a modern, Tokyo-inspired destination where dining meets nightlife.

Guests can enjoy elevated sushi, handcrafted cocktails, happy hour deals and live music on weekends.
