In honor of Birmingham’s role in creating the nation’s first and longest-running Veterans Day celebration, the new logo for the 2027 Congressional Medal of Honor Society (CMOHS) Convention to be held in The Magic City, was unveiled today.

The Convention, which is scheduled for September 13-18, 2027, will bring America’s highest military heroes to the Magic City for a series of community events, youth programs, leadership forums and educational outreach.

“Hosting the Medal of Honor Society Convention is more than an honor. It’s a defining moment for Birmingham. Our city gave birth to Veterans Day, and now we have the opportunity to once again show the nation what service, sacrifice and courage look like through this historic event.”

Lt. Gen. (Ret.) A.C. Roper, chair of the Birmingham Medal of Honor Host Committee

Designed by local artist Shawn Wright, the Convention logo was inspired by Birmingham’s heritage and the values of the Medal of Honor.

Wright stated  his goal was “to create a design that feels both modern and respectful, worthy of the recipients and of our city.”

Below is the logo, which will be on display today at the 2025 Veterans Day Parade in Downtown Birmingham:

In addition to convention coming to Birmingham in 2027, the community will celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the first Veterans Day parade,

“Birmingham has always been a place that honors our heroes.. From the first Veterans Day Parade in 1947 to welcoming Medal of Honor recipients in 2027, our city continues to celebrate those who serve. This parade sets the stage for the convention and reminds us of the courage and commitment that define our community.”
